stop motion video 2

In this video Ive added more filters and effects giving the pendulum a more psychadelic feel. The soundtrack ive added is tick tock by gwen stefani. The lyrics are fitting to the video and the fast paced rythym brings life to the piece

Stop motion finished videos. 1

Upon completion of the video I used a black and white filter and applied a classical soundtrack which fitted the atmosphere.

"Stop start"/ Stop motion piece

After I had used many different mediums to show the mechanism I decided to experiment further with 3d and video. I created a pendulum similar to that of the one in the metranome. I attatched a ruler to a cd, then I covered it in masking tape and hot wax. I used the handle of a paper bag to mimic the opening through which the pendulum moved.

I placed the pieces onto a white background and photographed it as I moved it into different positions.

Pendulum Mechanisms

In order to look at the mechanics of a pendulum I looked at an old metranome I used for playing guitar. The mechanism though it appears complex is fairly simple. Force is applied to the pendulum and under the third law which states action reaction. The pendulum will swing back and forth because of simple harmonic motion. The mechanism inside is to cause the clicking and sound that is made as the pendulum moves. In order to further understand it I photographed the inside and did a series of drawings to investigate. upon Completion of the drawings I began using different media such as chalks, paint, and print.

Mechanisms

After My progress review I decided to take a step back and look at mechanisms that would cause the motion of a pendulum and similar mechanisms that cause motion.
In a mechanical gluegun I found the mechanism is simply the contraction of handles which causes the device to move. I studied it in depth through photography and drawing.

Contradictions video footage

I also took video footage of the motions and swings and edited it

Contradictions natural vs manufactured

After exploring natural pendulums I wanted to look more at the exact shape of those found in clocks and other manmade structures. Notabley the shape is perfectly circular. In order to imitate this I used an excercise ball and tied it with the same rope I used to suspend my crystals

I booked space in Studio 2 to suspend them all. I wanted to create a contradiction between natural and unnatural but also to make them fully interactive so people could walk through them. I hung them from the pipes on the ceiling above and documented the installation.
